the bright, colourful still lives and landscapes we see today.
Her paintings are a celebration of all the positive and beautiful

I
was born in Chile in 1949 and immigrated on my own to Canada
in 1967. Since 1986 I have been a member of the Canadian Society
of Painters in Watercolour (CSPWC). I paint with acrylic &
oil on canvas and mixed media on paper. Silence and experience
are my teachers, making Art is my challenge, my inner guide,
my joy and my freedom. |

BARRY
SHELTON - Born in Toronto, Ontario in
1949, I have degrees from Queens and University of Toronto. For
decades I have enjoyed painting with acrylic on canvas, I love
my choice of media and path of life. |

paintings
Shana says her inspiration comes from inside.
Rather than choose her subjects, she allows them to choose her.
Painting objects and scenes that evoke an emotion in her, she
draws upon her memories and experiences to provide her with
subjects. Shana prefers to work with oils and acrylics, but
she also enjoys experimenting with new mediums, always open
to seeing what can be rather than what is.

Hadden
Victoria
Hadden works from her studio in the downtown Toronto community
of Cabbagetown creating paintings in acrylics, watercolours,
and mixed media. Her subject matter is guided by an appreciation
and passion for beauty inspired by nature and evocative of emotional
memories and experiences.
Currently her favourite subject matter is western civilization’s
most influential blossom, the tulip, responsible for creating
the modern day stock market. In Greek mythology Apollo and Dionysus,
the two faces of nature, lightness and darkness, show their
contest in the beauty of a flower and its rapid demise. Hence,
right there in a simple flower one can find the meaning of life.
A native of Hamilton, she studied at the Victoria College of
Art in the fine arts studio program.

My
work deals primarily with the cycle of life in nature, as represented
through various forms of connection embodied in the form of
the horse. My influences are drawn partly from the Woodland
tradition of painting as well as illustration and combines the
concept of interconnection between animate and inanimate things.
Another aspect of my work deals with the idea of connection
through energy. In the Chinese tradition, energy (qi) is usually
associated with medicine and acupuncture and is a healing force
that keeps our bodies in check if it is balanced properly, with
our bodies having a centre where this energy can be harboured.
Horses have been a big part of my life growing up and have had
a lot of influence on me and as a homage to that, these pieces
were painted.

Clarey
Born
in England, Anna showed an interest in art from an early age.
Her passion for art, however, was put on the backburner while
she earned a degree in microbiology and pursued a career in
science. She rediscovered her "true love" about 10
years ago, while taking a career break to raise her family of
three boys. Anna specializes in large urban and rural landscapes
as well as floral studies. Originally a water colour artist,
Anna switched to painting mostly acrylics a few years ago. "Acrylics
allow for an uninhibited, bold use of colour and more freedom
of expression".

Oleg
has deep artistic roots. He has grown in the family of artists.
His mother and grandfather were artists and that influenced
him to choose the same artistic walk of life. The manner of
his painting is very different. Whether he paints still life
or representational composition, it always has its own world
and seems quaint and distorted. Every piece is a little story.
His works are talking for themselves. Just listen closely. |

Jon
Tobin |
|
artist
Living in Northern Ontario near the Quebec border,
Jon Tobin grew up amongst a landscape and people who are deeply
representative of both traditional Canadian heritages. French
and English meet in a place that is wild and rugged, always
changing, and yet largely untouched by human demands. Watching
highly skilled craftsmen create beautiful sleigh harnesses and
other quality hand-built pieces in the old ways gave Tobin a
unique perspective on how art and life intersect in traditional
cultures. |

Proust
would have loved painter Holly Farrell. Her moody, often melancholy
depictions of commonplace objects, like a rollaway cot, metal
lawn chair or china teacup, are the Canuck equivalent of his
reverie-inducing medeleine. Farrell, an artist from Burks Fall
who has gathered a strong local following, started painting
familiar objects like furniture to teach herself how to draw.
"When they started to take a character of their own,"
says Farrell, "I realized I was really painting portraits
without any people in them. |

I follow my interest in color
and texture through paintings and collages. The artwork I create
is abstract; the work is not literal, but each viewer can imagine
context, since the visuals relate to architectural elements,
geometry and nature inspired themes. Quilts and their patterns
have always fascinated me; they are a source of continuous inspiration. |

Painting is an opening, an invitation to play with artistic
elements and aspects of myself and my world, rarely knowing
where it will lead me. Some of my paintings are inspired by
landscape or figures, others more abstract, but all come from
a place of deep attunement to a creative centre. Many of my
paintings touch into the dimension of spirit, myth and archetype.

In
my studio in Newmarket, Ontario, I experiment with various materials
and constantly work toward perfecting my technique. Integrating
and adapting the varied facets of colour and material I attempt
to best portray my chosen theme: the sea and its creatures.
The sea and its power profoundly move me, and its variety and
mystery infuse me with a deep sense of awe. I am particularly
captivated by marine life and my art is influenced by the endless
variety of form and function found in the creatures which inhabit
our blue planet: turtles, seahorses, starfish, fish...
